Due to the success of the "Making a Difference with Your Future" transition
weekend, an extension was created to assist students and parents with the decisions related to post-secondary
education."On the Road to Your Future",
a four-day bus trip, is designed to expose high school students and their parent/guardian to two of the most prominent post
secondary institutions in the country for the deaf and hard of hearing populations. The National Technical Institute for the Deaf
(NTID) in Rochester, NY is one of the seven colleges of the Rochester Institute of Technology and is the world's first and largest
technological college for deaf and hard of hearing students. Gallaudet University in Washington, DC is the only liberal arts
university in the world designed exclusively for deaf and hard of hearing students.

Comments from Participants:
"Dear Deaf Initiatives,
I was thinking about you guys
this morning as I read my English paper I had to
write at CSCC. It was about the bus trip and how it made an impact in my future.
I wanted to write you a thank you email.
Thank you both for forming this bus trip. If I hadn't gone on that bus trip, I
would've been LOST! I wouldn't be going to Gallaudet, I would be at home and doing
nothing, or working for you (not that I don't like working for you, I like to do
many different things). So this trip was exploring for my future.
I’m proud to say that I worked for you and that I know you. If anybody asked me how
I found out about Gallaudet, I would say, 'The bus trip that was formed by Deaf
Initiatives!'"
- Meredith Burke, Gallaudet University Bound!
"Going on this trip helped me know some of my choices
and the responsibility that I have in my own future. This trip really
made me realize I have to work on my grades."
- High School Junior
"Without (sponsorship) I, personally,
would not have been able to take this trip with my son and to
have shown him the choice and opportunities he has in his life!
I was extremely interested in the opportunities at NTID, RIT and
Gallaudet University. Again, a BIG THANK YOU!"
- Parent
The next bus trip is scheduled for April 13 - 16, 2011. For more information, or to register, please contact Anna Naumann at TheDEAFund@aol.com
